My mannequin’s new look

I have had this mannequin bust for a few years now, and I always use it to photograph my jewelry. It is a nice plastic life-size replica of a female head and neck, and works like a charm for earrings and necklace shots. I also got it (or her?) a long hair wig that I thought would add some classy style to my photos. My kids named her Rapunzel because of that. That was the plan, anyways. In reality her hair always got tangled and in my face during photo shoots, so I had to keep it either in a ponytail or braided. But even that didn’t help her hair from becoming completely unruly with time, and impossible to brush anyway. And so I knew that I had to either buy a new wig, or try to save this one.

And so I got my faithful hair shears out and got to work. Wanted to go for a short bob style,  but thought it would be smarter to aim at something longer to give myself room to save face if this attempt fails.

To be honest, I was very happy with the result. Hair is manageable again, looks better than it did before, and now I just need to make a few test shots to see how my jewelry looks with this new updated look.

Next to each other for comparison.

I guess I can save some money and stick with the old wig for now. Doesn’t mean I won’t be tempted to switch to something new, but for now I didn’t create more litter for the environment, and repurposed what I already had on hand. Win-win situation!
